Scrapple is a delicious German food that is loved by many people. It is available in packages and sliced for baking or frying, but making scrapple from scratch is a fun and healthy way to create this scrumptious delight.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 3/4 cups water
  • 8 ounces of sausages
  • All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Method

  1. Rinse the cooked sausage, and then drain the water to remove the excess fat. If you aren’t into greasy food, use minced chicken meat.

  1. In a saucepan, place the water over the stove and heat it till it boils.

  1. Stir the cornmeal, salt, sugar, pepper, and milk in a separate bowl. Whisk these all together and then pour the batter in the boiling water, while stirring with a wooden spoon.

  1. Stir this mixture till it warms and simmers. Set it on a low heat and let it bubble. Place a lid on the pot to let it cook. Let it turn into a thick and stiff mix. This will occur after 10 minutes. Now add the sausage and pour the full batter into a large bread loaf pan. Your scrapple is made but not fully cooked.

  1. To bake the scrapple, you will preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Line the tray with an aluminum foil and spray a nonstick spray over it.

  1. Slice the scrapple into slices like bread. Place these slices one the tray and set it in the oven. Turn the slices over after 25 minutes. Bake for 20 minutes.
  2. Remove from the oven and serve hot.
